Deemed a dangerous substance impacting human health, asbestos was phased out of use in Australia in the 1980s. Its use, sale and import were banned in 2003.

Thanks to historical widespread use in domestic, manufacturing, rural and industrial settings, both friable and non-friable asbestos is still found today where it shouldn’t be. Finding asbestos in soil has the potential to impact a project budget, particularly if it’s not managed, abated and/or removed by qualified and deeply experienced professionals.

Our asbestos soil abatement & reclassification services

Our specialty lies in remediating soil which has been contaminated with asbestos in an industrial, rural or urban setting. Our work is usually with asbestos that has been intentionally (or historically) dumped, a by-product of demolition or from subterranean asbestos lined components.

Physical remediation of asbestos impacted sites typically includes two processes. Most commonly, we deploy our specialists and onsite equipment to safely separate the asbestos and asbestos containing material from soil. Separated materials are then disposed separately. Additional time to abate impacted soil is offset by significant cost savings at the time of disposal. In the rare circumstances where abatement is not possible, impacted soil can be excavated and safely loaded directly onto transportation and removed from site.

Disposal of any material (abated or otherwise) is always at one of our fully licensed waste management facility partners. We provide comprehensive waste transport manifests, including auditable materials tracking from site to final disposal.

Community engagement: as a responsible contractor, IES is committed to protecting site workers, neighbours and the general public from fugitive emissions. When required, we provide traffic control and management plans to ensure smooth operations and public safety.

    Certifications and experience

As a specialist asbestos remediation company we hold a Class A Asbestos Removal License certification which demonstrates our expertise in comprehensive asbestos management from containment to disposal, ensuring the highest standards of worker and public safety.
