Goulburn Valley Water project
As part of its ongoing infrastructure investments, Goulburn Valley Water engaged Industrial Environmental Services (IES) to undertake a major rehabilitation project across six sites located in regional north-east Victoria.
The brief
The project scope was to provide environmental remediation services on stockpiles of hard waste including concrete, metal, soil and asbestos containing materials.
Encompassing both water treatment plants and waste management facilities, the project involved working around existing infrastructure and trees which needed to be retained.
Execution
Over a period of 8 weeks, materials at each site were segregated into waste streams for better management, relevant treatment and appropriate disposal.
Once the surface level industrial waste was removed, test pitting was performed to gather clear data to help determine the full extent of soil contamination. Impacted soils were excavated to enable safe asbestos abatement and sieve separation of other solid industrial waste. All asbestos containing materials and solid industrial waste were transported to the appropriate licensed facilities for secure offsite disposal.
With clearance certification in hand, processed soils were backfilled for re-use at each site and property fences reinstated (after being removed at the commencement of works).
Outcome
Industrial Environmental Services successfully completed the project to the satisfaction of both Goulburn Valley Water and the project’s environmental consultant.
Full documentation was provided to substantiate the lawful disposal of segregated waste at the appropriate licensed facilities. Our partnership with strategic suppliers ensures we experience minimum of delays in undertaking projects such as this one for Goulburn Valley Water.
